Paul’s address to the Ephesian elders – Part 3

Speaker:
Passage: Acts 20:22-31
Service Type:

Continuing the series of studies in Acts 20, Jack Hay (Perth) further considers the different ways the apostle is presented. Having already viewed Paul as a captive and a disciple, this study highlights his roles as an athlete striving to “finish my course” and a deacon devoted to “the ministry which I have received”. Considering each in turn, Jack examines what the Scriptures teach about the characteristics of an athlete and the nature of deacon service.

He notes that, like an athlete, believers are called to be marked by perseverance, discipline, and consistency. Furthermore, he emphasises that deacon service takes many forms—from preaching and teaching to practical, everyday ministrations. Highlighting that the Bible does not support a “one-man ministry,” Jack reminds us that every believer has a spiritual gift and encourages each listener to faithfully carry out the work God has entrusted to them.
